The Brief
Set in the heart of the Cotswold market town of Cirencester, Café Mosaic is a much-loved local cafe known for its inviting, friendly atmosphere. However, due to increasing customer demand, the cafe required an update as its interior had become dated and less functional.
The brief called for a sensitive redesign that improved functionality and flow while protecting the cafes familiar feel. An important part of the brief involved balancing tradition with a practical, contemporary refresh. Our focus was on creating a space that served more guests yet retained the charm regulars continued to appreciate. Therefore, the new layout needed to comfortably accommodate more guests while enhancing the experience for both new visitors and familiar faces.
The Work
We developed several design concepts focused on improving circulation, seating, and overall efficiency. As a first step, the layout was reworked to remove congestion points and create a smoother flow for both customers and staff. Additionally, flexible seating options, including banquette booths and movable tables, were introduced to support a variety of group sizes while making better use of space.
Alongside furniture, lighting, and material selections to refresh the interior, space-saving solutions were considered in both the customer areas and the compact back-of-house kitchen. This approach improved functionality for staff and enhanced the overall flow.
